NEX Customers Support Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
On Jan. 22, retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, Chief Executive Officer, Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) presented a check for $147,115 to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) representing money donated by NEX customers during a promotion held in fall 2018.
“Since 2011, NEXCOM has given customers the opportunity to purchase a $5 benefit ticket at NEX stores, and those funds are then donated directly to NMCRS,” said Bianchi. “This campaign is very popular with our customers, so in 2018 we were excited to give them two chances, in the spring and fall, to support the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society! We’re proud to provide our customers multiple opportunities throughout the year to give back and support fellow service members and families who rely on NCMRS.”
“This generous donation from Navy Exchange shoppers around the globe will go directly to Sailors, Marines and their families,” said retired Adm. Steve Abbot, President and CEO, NMCRS. “There are so many experiencing personal financial hardships like needing funds to travel to the bedside of an ailing family member or buy a tank of gas to evacuate their family to safety when a Category 4 hurricane is approaching. The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is honored to use this gift to serve Shipmates and fellow Marines in need.”
In return for a $5 donation to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, customers receive a card that entitled them to specific discounts for a one-time purchase at the NEX. Since its inception, NEX patrons have donated nearly $2 million to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.
