Make the Perfect Cold Brew Coffee at Home

Cold brew coffee has gained popularity among coffee drinkers. Because it’s brewed at room temperature, cold brew is smooth and less acidic than regular coffee. It may boost metabolism and lower your risk of heart disease. The slower cold brew process typically extracts more caffeine than a hot brewed coffee.

Try these 4 easy steps to make your own cold brew:

  1. Grind coffee beans coarsely. If you don’t have a grinder, use a blender or food processor.
  2. Place grounds in a mason jar or jug. Pour in filtered water and stir, ensuring the beans are fully immersed in water.
  3. Cover and steep overnight (at least 12 hours) on your countertop or inside the refrigerator.
  4. Strain through a cheesecloth or fine-mesh sieve into another jar or jug.

You can adjust the concentration to make stronger or weaker. Start with one cup of beans steeped in four cups of water and adjust to find your balance. Pour over ice, cream or milk. Save time by making a big batch in a pot over the weekend and store in the fridge to grab and go during the week.

You can also make cold brew using a French press, and with its popularity, your NEX carries cold brew coffee makers.

If you want to add variation, try these flavor techniques:
Vanilla Cold Brew: Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla bean paste (or an actual vanilla bean) to your beans as they brew.
Mocha Cold Brew: Add 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder to your beans as they brew.
Cinnamon Cold Brew: Add 1 cinnamon stick to your beans as they brew (for this recipe, use the mason jar infusion technique).
