Building smarter, better
Commercial buildings tend to leave a large carbon footprint – typically, the larger the building, the larger its carbon footprint. To do our part, we’ve been implementing green technology in our new stores and retrofitting existing locations with updated energy saving fixtures, including:
- LEED-certified lighting the most energy-efficient lighting available
- Grey-water recycling safely rerouted to maintain green spaces
- Low-flow water fixtures to reduce water usage by up to 60%
- Vegetated-roofs to reduce storm water runoff and energy use
- Hybrid fuel stations for charging electric vehicles
Cutting down on paper waste
Our forests are essential to our planet’s health, reducing carbon emissions, providing oxygen, and providing shelter for countless lives. To combat deforestation, we’ve cut tons of paper waste by going digital for most flyers and promotions. Recycling just 1 ton of paper has saved around 682.5 gallons of oil, 26,500 liters of water and 17 trees. We also have converted to using FSC Cardstock for instore signage. Forest Stewardship Council card stock is all made using paper harvested from legal, responsibly-managed forests.
Reducing carbon emissions
As part of our strategy to reducing our carbon footprint, our logistics teams are endlessly re-routing traffic and consolidating shipments to reduce fuel consumption and unnecessary mileage. In 2020, we removed the equivalent of 1,079 trailers from the road and saved 58,158 gallons of diesel*, keeping 592 metric tons of CO2** out of the atmosphere.

Responsibly sourced paper
We’re making continual efforts to reduce our paper use and go digital whenever possible. When we do use paper, all of our printed materials are produced with responsibly sourced wood fiber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council®. The shopping bags used in stores are made of at least 40% in-house recycled content. When customers Buy Online, Pick Up In Store, those bags are 100% recyclable
